After having a few conversations via telephone over the past few days, I have found out that EMSLA has decided to bail out of the National EMS Memorial Service.

Why?

Due in part because the IAFF wants to take it over and move it to somewhere in Kansas. The original idea was to move it into Washington D.C. in the general vacinity as the National firefighters and police officers Memorials are. But to place a National EMS Memorial away from the others? Come on! Grow up IAFF and understand that EMS has its place in the overall scheme of things and is done being held under your thumb.

EMS more than deserves its place in the DHS AND deserves to have its own NATIONAL Memorial Service. Let's face it here folks, EMS Line of Duty Deaths have surpassed firefighter deaths in recent years and could possibly surpass police officers LODD's.

You make a good point DetroitMedic498. Perhaps bringing attention to a National EMS Memorial would help the overall awareness of EMS and our issues.

The Board of Directors announced the service will be moving to Colorado Springs the home of the IAFF. Talk about moving it to nowhere. You thought getting people to Roanoke was difficult. Washington DC our nations capitol is not good enough I guess. EMSLA is still pushing forward I hope! Our profession does not need to be the step child of the Fire Service. Can anyone tell me if they (IAFF places the names of non IAFF members LODD on their memorial?) Be safe. I'll see you all in Roanoke in two weeks.
